In the first colour refresh since 2008, four new shades of grey, a eucalypt green called Mangrove™ and a rich red called Terrain® have been added to the COLORBOND® steel range.

The 2013 refresh is the biggest update of the COLORBOND® steel colour palette in more than two decades, and increases the size of the palette from 20 to 22 colours.

The new COLORBOND® steel colours are:

  • Basalt® – a deep neutral cool grey
  • Wallaby® – a mid neutral cool grey with a warm tone
  • Gully® – a warm neutral mid grey/green colour
  • Cove® – a warm mid grey with a golden overtone
  • Mangrove® – a new direction in green with an olive/grey/eucalypt tone
  • Terrain® – a rich, earthy, red/brown inspired by inland Australia

The new colours were selected after wide consultation with building industry professionals, with the aim of providing a new colour palette relevant to current and future needs.

The research made it clear that there was a real desire for a change to the COLORBOND® steel colour palette driven by recent developments in residential and commercial architectural trends.

The new colours are based on the traditional hues of the Australian outdoors.

More time was spent optimising the new colour palette than ever before, including four years of outdoor exposure testing to ensure the final colours would look good for as long as BlueScope and COLORBOND® steel customers expect.

Arriving at paint colours that were both aesthetically pleasing and technically suitable involved a painstaking process.

Development also involved the incorporation of BlueScope's Thermatech® technology to optimise the thermal properties of the new colours in line with more stringent building codes.
